Natural bodies of water.

thank you for opening up my world
to blues and browns and greens
engulfing, encapsulating, engrossing
how could i have not known, all these years?

From above the rippling plane, I stand
anxious, a great temperature change to come
as if each time I’ve forgotten the pleasure and gratitude
that follows after i’ve taken the plunge

this morning in the north aegean
i am grateful and refreshed
and i thank you for introducing me
in those ponds and lakes thousands of miles away

but i’m here today
and there is salt in my mouth
i float easily
after the run i couldn’t have asked for more

Water

For the bulk of the summer I have been bathing in natural bodies of water, the majority of the time. I just noticed that for the past two weeks I have not once used our indoor shower, opting instead for our pond, or one of the numerous, beautiful swimming holes in the area. This isn’t done to prove a point or anything, it just is at this point the natural flow of things.

Waking up before my alarm goes off on a Thursday morning, the air is crisp, and telling of a fall to come soon. I de-robe, and walk the path from my porch down to the pond in the forest garden; around it lay a wide spread of young fruit trees, perennial vegetables and shrubs. Behind it a stand of 50 ft. trees. Standing on the stones before the water, the surface is still and the air is silent, save a few insects and just a handful of birds. Sliding into the water, the cool liquid is refreshing, invigorating. I am grateful.

Oh tell me, what is wealth?
